My mum spent two years being told she was fine.
She wasn't. She was going through the hormonal shift that comes for every woman eventually, and every appointment sent her home with the same shrug. Nothing showed up as a problem, so nothing was done about it.
So she stopped waiting.
The kitchen came first
I'm Filipino. In our kitchen, food and plants were the first thing you reached for, not the last — and that isn't a philosophy where I'm from, it's just how the week works. Across much of Asia, functional mushrooms aren't alternative medicine. They're Tuesday.
That's the part that's hard to explain here. In the UK a mushroom supplement sounds like a fringe decision, something you'd have to justify. Where my family are from it sits in the cupboard next to the ginger and the garlic, and nobody would think to comment on it.
Then I looked at what was on sale here
The problem was never the mushrooms. It was everything around them.
Almost nobody would tell you how much was in the jar. "Mushroom blend" on the front, no dose on the back. Extract ratios missing, or quietly replaced with a raw weight that means something entirely different. Five names on the label and no way of knowing whether there was a meaningful amount of any of them.
And then the claims. Supplements in Great Britain are governed by a register of authorised health claims — a list of the things that have actually been assessed and permitted. Most of what you'll read on a supplement label isn't on that list at all.
So we built the one we couldn't find
Three rules, and they haven't moved since:
- We state the dose. 500mg of extract at ten-to-one, and vitamin B6 at 100% of your daily reference intake. It's on the label and it's on the site.
- We test every batch for heavy metals — mushrooms take up what's in the substrate they grow in, so it's the fair question to ask of any mushroom supplement. We publish the actual results, before you buy, not a badge saying we test.
- We don't invent benefits. Vitamin B6 contributes to normal psychological function, to the normal functioning of the nervous system and to the regulation of hormonal activity. Those are authorised claims. We don't add to them, and we don't imply more than they say.
That last one costs us sales and we know it. It's the whole point.
What Lysa is
Five functional mushrooms and vitamin B6, in two gummies a day. Lion's Mane, Reishi, Chaga, Shiitake and Maitake.
Not a cure for anything. Not a replacement for a doctor. Something you'll actually remember to take, made by people who will tell you exactly what's in it.
We're new, so we carry the risk rather than you. Sixty days — if nothing changes, we refund you.
